Unfortunately not all our wineries are open to the public. However, most of them offer exclusive wine club memberships or can provide you a list of retail locations where the wines can be purchased.
Chaine d’Or VineyardsChaine d’Or VineyardsNot Open to the Public
Chaine d’Or is a small winery in Woodside, and we are celebrating our 30th anniversary this year.
In 1985 Anne stood on the steps of the Redwood City courthouse and made a bid for a small property that was being sold in foreclosure and which bordered our home. That was the start of Chaine d’Or Vineyards. As soon as we acquired the land we began the process of clearing it of the overgrown poison oak and weeds. After the clearing we hired a bulldozer and deep ripped the hillside, followed by planting a cover crop of PurpleVetch to improve the soil. The next year we turned under the vetch and planted the grapes, primarily Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon together with smaller quantities of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petit Verdot to be blended into the red wine. We installed the irrigation system, and put up the trellis, and went through a few trials calming a neighbor who didn’t like the look of a “naked” vineyard.
After a couple of years we realized that we really were going to be able to grow grapes, and quite a few of them. That thought then was the realization that we would need a little winery, and so we built one by expanding our home and tucking it underneath the living room.
Much in the tradition of the small European vigneron, we grow grapes and make wine primarily for local people and the occasional visitor who happens to find us. And, in the same tradition, word of our quality product has spread via the – ahem – grapevine. We’ve been winning awards and gaining in popularity. And for most of our time we’ve been doing all of our own work. Anne has been the winemaker and Jerry has been driving the tractor.
But in 2007 Paul and Stefania Romero joined the Chaine d’Or family and took over all of the management and operations of the effort. They continued until 2015 when Nicolas Vonderheyden took over as Manager and Vigneron.

Clos Tita WineryClos Tita Winery
Clos Tita is an artisanal producer of red wines exclusively grown within the Santa Cruz Mountains appellation; one of California’s first appellations and one of its oldest regions to produce fine wine.
Our estate vineyard was established in 1990, planted to five clones of Pinot Noir and a few rows of Chardonnay and Viognier. Over the years we have produced a number of wines from other vineyards; Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc from the eastern slopes of the Santa Cruz Mountains (the “Chaine d’Or) which are used in our “Gironde” and “La Sierra Azul”.
On January Passport Day we are pouring our wines at VinoCruz in Soquel, CA.
Domaine EdenDomaine Eden
Domaine Eden is a nearby mountaintop wine estate purchased in 2007. Modeled after Mount Eden, it was founded and built by the late Tom Mudd in 1983, who initially planted the Mount Eden clonal selections of Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon, which evolved to include Pinot Noir from various Dijon and California selections. This is the former home of Cinnabar Winery.
This property inspired a new wine brand, Domaine Eden, which focuses on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from this special site and Bordeaux varieties from Mount Eden’s larger home, the Santa Cruz Mountains.

Kathryn Kennedy Estate Vineyard
Update 2015 – While the acreage at our Estate vineyard has been reduced by residential development to less than one acre, those original Cabernet Sauvignon vines that do continue to grow near Pierce Road will be made and bottled under Kathryn’s iconic silver and black signature label.
“After 35 years, working alongside Kathryn Kennedy, her son Marty Mathis continues their commitment to growing and making world class sustainable wines.”
100% Cabernet Sauvignon. The vines cover gentle slopes in Saratoga, California on the inland side of the Santa Cruz Mountains. In 1973 eight acres of vines were planted on their own roots. Excellent soil, a climate possessing just the right amount of marine influence, and personal attention combine to yield outstanding grapes. Each vintage is grown by hand and vinified in small open top vats followed by gentle barrel aging with 90% French oak, (50% new). The result is big, full-flavored wine with deep color and a decade or more of aging potential.
Production winery only; not open to visitors.

McCarthy Family Estate VineyardsMcCarthy Family Estate Vineyards
McCarthy Family Estate Vineyard has created an exceptional, limited production Cabernet Sauvignon for the sophisticated wine connoisseur. Nestled in foothills above Los Gatos, McCarthy Family Estate Vineyard encompasses six acres of dry farmed, organically grown vineyards, with a desired southwest exposure, on steep naturally draining slope, which continues the historical growing of Cabernet grapes in the Santa Cruz Mountain Appellation, and more specifically the Jesuits growing Cabernet grapes over a 100 years ago on their contiguous parcel.
The first harvest, of primarily three year old vines, was in 2006, which amounted to a very small quantity. 2007 & 2008 harvests have increased exponentially and full production should be reached in 3 to 4 years, 2011 or 2012.
Mount Eden VineyardsMount Eden VineyardsSeated Tasting By Appointment Only – the second and fourth Saturday of each month
Mount Eden Vineyards is a small historic wine estate perched at 2000 feet overlooking Silicon Valley, in the Santa Cruz Mountain Appellation, about 50 miles south of San Francisco. Founded in 1945, it is recognized as one of the original “boutique” California winery properties, focusing on small lots of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. Mount Eden’s lineage of estate bottled Chardonnay and Pinot Noir is the longest in California. Planted in austere, infertile Franciscan shale on a cool, exposed mountaintop, these low-yielding estate vineyards have consistently produced world-class wines for over a half-century. In 2007 Mount Eden acquired an additional 55 acres in the Saratoga foothills, which was christened Domaine Eden.
Mount Eden Vineyards also produces non-estate Chardonnays from the central coast, primarily Edna Valley. They have great success making Chardonnay from the Wolff Vineyard and are continually recognized as making outstanding wines from that region.
Since 1981 Jeffrey Patterson has guided the winemaking and grape growing at Mount Eden. His emphasis is on wine growing rather than winemaking; and an obsession with gentleness and naturalness in the handling of the grapes and wines is his ongoing passion.

Muccigrosso VineyardsMuccigrosso Vineyards
Muccigrosso Vineyards is a family-run endeavor committed to producing small quantities of hand made fine wines designed to satisfy everybody. Since the early 80′s when we first planted vines on our Santa Cruz Mountain property, we have studied the winemaking process from vine to glass. Over the years we have learned a great deal about getting results with as little intervention possible. Thanks to a broadening fan base, recent seasonal fortune and a foolhardy sense of adventure, we have become a bonded winery.
Muns VineyardMuns Vineyard
Muns Vineyard brushes the sky on the Loma Prieta ridge top above Monterey Bay at 2600 feet looking out over Santa Cruz and the Monterey Peninsula. This is the highest Pinot Noir vineyard in the Santa Cruz Mountains, a prime growing region for this luscious winegrape. We enjoy the coastal climate of the mountains, with cool fog lapping at our feet in the summer, gentle breezes and sunlight — perfect for growing premium Pinot Noir and Syrah. Moderate days and cool nights, along with diligent personal attention in our 13-acre owner-operated vineyard, produces fruit with rich and complex flavors. We have blended Dijon clones 114, 115, 667 and 777 to provide a fruit-forward, complex and well-balanced Pinot Noir.
We grow 12 acres of Pinot Noir and source most of it to other wineries. You will find Muns Vineyard-designate Pinot Noirs under other wineries’ labels, in the Santa Cruz Mountains and elsewhere. We produce a small amount of Pinot Noir under our own label, as well as our Syrah.
Please see our website here for opportunities to taste our wines.
Minimal intervention in the winery allows our unique terroir to shine. Barrel aging in 30% new oak for about 16 months adds soft tannins that accentuate, but not dominate, the beautiful fruit in this special wine. The wine drinks well now and is a delicious complement with food, and will bottle-age for years to come. Enjoy ‘heaven-in-a-bottle’ from our ridge top vineyard above the bay!
