With its mountainous terrain, marine and valley influences, varied micro-climates, and diverse soils the Santa Cruz Mountains offers our vintners the ideal place to grow high quality grapes and to produce some of the world’s most distinct and terroir driven wines.
The Santa Cruz Mountains Appellation encompasses more than 850 square miles beginning from San Francisco down the Peninsula to Silicon Valley and Gilroy over to Watsonville, Monterey Bay and back up to Santa Cruz and Half Moon Bay. Due to the size of the Santa Cruz Mountains wine region it is often useful for our visitors to plan their trip by winery hours of operation, sub-regions or by urban winery locations.

Kathryn Kennedy Estate Vineyard
Update 2015 – While the acreage at our Estate vineyard has been reduced by residential development to less than one acre, those original Cabernet Sauvignon vines that do continue to grow near Pierce Road will be made and bottled under Kathryn’s iconic silver and black signature label.

100% Cabernet Sauvignon. The vines cover gentle slopes in Saratoga, California on the inland side of the Santa Cruz Mountains. In 1973 eight acres of vines were planted on their own roots. Excellent soil, a climate possessing just the right amount of marine influence, and personal attention combine to yield outstanding grapes. Each vintage is grown by hand and vinified in small open top vats followed by gentle barrel aging with 90% French oak, (50% new). The result is big, full-flavored wine with deep color and a decade or more of aging potential.

From a tiny one-acre dry-farmed and hand-tended vineyard on the eastern side of the Skyline Ridge, we proudly produce elegant and refined wines for your enjoyment. Now strictly focused on classic Pinot Noir with great depth and complexity, our cellar contains a treasure of library wines, including outstanding Meritage blends. Our wine club grants members access to these aged-to-perfection gems, as well as to our new releases of Pinot Noir going forward.
Each vintage is aged in all new French oak barrels and bottle-aged before release.

We are family owned and operated, specializing in handcrafted aged red wines. Our wine making practices result in soft, smooth drinkable wines. Our wine making efforts are dedicated to the memory of our beloved daughter, Amanda.
Our family’s wine making began back in Bedonia, Italy which is a small mountain town overlooking the city of Rapallo on the Italian Riviera in Northern Italy in the 1800’s. Larry began his wine making at the age of six years old in his Grandfather Futanato’s cellar in San Francisco for the families private enjoyment. Today, although Larry is third generation he is the first generation to take the wine making technique to the market commercially. Our wines are nurtured and meticulously cared for from harvest through the bottling process. We use all natural methods.
