With its mountainous terrain, marine and valley influences, varied micro-climates, and diverse soils the Santa Cruz Mountains offers our vintners the ideal place to grow high quality grapes and to produce some of the world’s most distinct and terroir driven wines.
The Santa Cruz Mountains Appellation encompasses more than 850 square miles beginning from San Francisco down the Peninsula to Silicon Valley and Gilroy over to Watsonville, Monterey Bay and back up to Santa Cruz and Half Moon Bay. Due to the size of the Santa Cruz Mountains wine region it is often useful for our visitors to plan their trip by winery hours of operation, sub-regions or by urban winery locations.

BARGETTO WINERY is a third generation family owned and operated winery that was established in 1933 on the banks of Soquel Creek in the Santa Cruz Mountains. We specialize in producing award winning, cool-climate varietals like Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Grigio which are carefully nurtured at our Regan estate vineyard as well as other varietals from other Santa Cruz Mountains vineyards. We also offer a large selection of wines such as Petite Sirah and Zinfandel from other regions of California. In addition to offering red and white wine varietals, BARGETTO WINERY is also home to the CHAUCER’S CELLARS brand which offers a variety of award winning fruit wines and honey meads. We have two tasting room locations to choose from. One is located at the winery in Soquel and the second tasting room is situated in the heart of Cannery Row in Monterey. Both tasting rooms offer friendly service and are open 7 days a week. We have a variety of special events throughout the year at both tasting rooms so be sure to check out our event calendar. In addition to hosting events for the general public, BARGETTO WINERY is a great place for weddings and private events. We have a dedicated private events department that will make sure your special event is fabulous!

Our winery is located 3 miles from Downtown Santa Cruz and features beautiful bay, and mountain views. Burrell School’s origins date back to 1854 when Lyman J. Burrell settled the rough wilderness that is now home to our winery and Estate vines. Carrying on the more than 130 year old tradition at the School, David and Anne Moulton began development of the Estate vineyard in 1973. At a 1,600 foot elevation, the site faces to the southwest. Soils are a complex mixture of loam and shale due to our close proximity to the San Andreas Fault.
Nearby Monterey Bay brings warm days and cool nights. This results in a unique microclimate, perfect for long, slow ripening of cool climate grapes.
Initial plantings were to Chardonnay and Merlot, with Pinot Noir added in 2002. Cultivation and spraying are done with heritage Cletrac tractors; pruning, seasonal operations and picking are all done by hand.
From growing to harvesting, the goal is toward the best wine grapes possible in order to produce distinctive, concentrated wines reflective of their mountain home.
