We invite you to come and explore! The Santa Cruz Mountains wine region is nestled in one of the most unique natural environments in the world. With its mountainous terrain, marine and valley influences, varied micro-climates, and diverse soils the Santa Cruz Mountains offers our vintners the ideal place to grow high quality grapes and to produce some of the world’s most distinct and terroir driven wines.
The Santa Cruz Mountains Appellation encompasses more than 850 square miles beginning from San Francisco down the Peninsula to Silicon Valley and Gilroy over to Watsonville, Monterey Bay and back up to Santa Cruz and Half Moon Bay. Due to the size of the Santa Cruz Mountains wine region it is often useful for our visitors to plan their trip by winery hours of operation, sub-regions or by urban winery locations.

True to the Santa Cruz Mountains
For five generations, my family has been working the land in Bonny Doon, CA growing premium wine grapes. As winemakers it is our mission to produce wines that display the flavor of our home land, and make wines that are true to their variety. My wines are simplistic in the sense that they reflect what they truly are. This is accomplished through old world winemaking techniques. We invite you to experience the true terroir of Bonny Doon, and enjoy the typicity and purity of our wines.

Bruzzone Family VineyardBruzzone Family Vineyard
In the beautiful Santa Cruz Mountains, just above the fog line, one discovers the partnership of climate and soil, idyllic for the growth of the delicate wine grape. Warm afternoons and cool evening breezes offer year-round perfection for the production of the Bruzzone Family Chardonnay. Hand-harvested in late Fall, oak barrel processing creates a medium-bodied, clean wine with hints of citrus and apple, followed by the gentle entry of a light coffee flavor.
The Bruzzone Family Vineyard was established in 1999. After great success with their Chardonnay, the family added an additional 7 acres dedicated to the growth of this notable varietal and created an additional planting for their Pinot Noir.
Burrell School Vineyards & WineryBurrell School Vineyards & Winery
Burrell School’s origins date back to 1854 when Lyman J. Burrell settled the rough wilderness that is now home to our winery and Estate vines. Carrying on the more than 130 year old tradition at the School, David and Anne Moulton began development of the Estate vineyard in 1973. At a 1,600 foot elevation, the site faces to the southwest. Soils are a complex mixture of loam and shale due to our close proximity to the San Andreas Fault.
Nearby Monterey Bay brings warm days and cool nights. This results in a unique microclimate, perfect for long, slow ripening of cool climate grapes.
Initial plantings were to Chardonnay and Merlot, with Pinot Noir added in 2002. Cultivation and spraying are done with heritage Cletrac tractors; pruning, seasonal operations and picking are all done by hand.
From growing to harvesting, the goal is toward the best wine grapes possible in order to produce distinctive, concentrated wines reflective of their mountain home.

Chaine d’Or VineyardsChaine d’Or VineyardsContact: Jerry Anderson
Chaine d’Or is a small winery in Woodside, and we are celebrating our 30th anniversary this year.
In 1985 Anne stood on the steps of the Redwood City courthouse and made a bid for a small property that was being sold in foreclosure and which bordered our home. That was the start of Chaine d’Or Vineyards. As soon as we acquired the land we began the process of clearing it of the overgrown poison oak and weeds. After the clearing we hired a bulldozer and deep ripped the hillside, followed by planting a cover crop of PurpleVetch to improve the soil. The next year we turned under the vetch and planted the grapes, primarily Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon together with smaller quantities of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petit Verdot to be blended into the red wine. We installed the irrigation system, and put up the trellis, and went through a few trials calming a neighbor who didn’t like the look of a “naked” vineyard.
After a couple of years we realized that we really were going to be able to grow grapes, and quite a few of them. That thought then was the realization that we would need a little winery, and so we built one by expanding our home and tucking it underneath the living room.
Much in the tradition of the small European vigneron, we grow grapes and make wine primarily for local people and the occasional visitor who happens to find us. And, in the same tradition, word of our quality product has spread via the – ahem – grapevine. We’ve been winning awards and gaining in popularity. And for most of our time we’ve been doing all of our own work. Anne has been the winemaker and Jerry has been driving the tractor.
But in 2007 Paul and Stefania Romero joined the Chaine d’Or family and took over all of the management and operations of the effort. They continued until 2015 when Nicolas Vonderheyden took over as Manager and Vigneron.

Vineyards are selected after a thorough screening of soils, climate and cultural practices as well as a formal tasting of their library wines. The fruit is hand harvested in the morning cool and swiftly moved to nearby cellars where it is gently handled with state-of-the-art equipment. Carefully fermented in stainless steel tanks or small oak barrels, the wines are imprinted with distinct off-the-vine aromas and flavors.
Clos LaChance WinesClos LaChance Wines
In 1987, co-owners Bill and Brenda Murphy decided to plant a few rows of Chardonnay in their Saratoga backyard, both for landscaping purposes and to realize their dreams of being small-scale vintners. A few years later, the wines produced from this small backyard vineyard were good enough to sell to the public. It was at this point that Clos LaChance formed into a commercial winery. The first released wines were from the 1992 vintage. The next 15 years would take the Murphy’s from 200 cases of wine produced to 80,000; 3/4 of an acre to 150 acres planted and 20 full-time and 25 seasonal employees.
Clos LaChance Winery takes its name from the small fenced-in area encompassing a vineyard (Clos) and from co-owner Brenda Murphy’s maiden name (LaChance). The Murphy’s chose the Hummingbird as the winery’s symbol for both its aesthetic beauty and its ability to keep other birds away from the grapes.
Together with their daughters, Bill and Brenda have created a multi-generational, family-owned and operated winery. It is their dream that the third generation will eventually take over the business.
The winery is located in San Martin, CA, within the Central Coast American Viticultural Area. Tucked into the beautiful Hayes Valley, Clos LaChance is a true wine country experience located only 30 minutes from the Silicon Valley. Click here for more information about visiting Clos LaChance Winery.
Being a good steward of land and resources are key components in Clos LaChance’s winemaking practice. The family is especially vested in the sustainability of the winery and vineyard with the homes of creating a legacy for their children and grandchildren. Clos LaChance Winery and Estate Vineyard is proud to be Certified Sustainable by the California Sustainable Winegrowing Alliance.

Over the years we have produced a number of wines from other vineyards; Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc from the eastern slopes of the Santa Cruz Mountains (the “Chaine d’Or) which are used in our “Gironde” and “La Sierra Azul”.

Domenico WineryDomenico WineryContact: MIchael Annunziata
Dominick and Gloria Chirichillo’s choice of name for their winery is a reflection of their commitment to their Italian heritage and the tradition of family winemaking. In 1955 in New York, Dominick who is called Domenico in Italian was introduced to these traditions by his Nonno (grandfather), Domenico Giovinazzo. In the basement of their home was a wine press that Nonno showed Dominick; passing down from one generation to another the love of handcrafting wine.
Dominick’s passion for winemaking took him from amateur competitions, while he lived on the East Coast, to commercial status after moving to Northern California. Moving to California has enabled Dominick to choose his grapes hands-on from selected vineyards in Napa Valley, Sonoma’s Central Coast, Alexander Valley, Russian River Valley, Amador County and the Lodi District. Not to mention he is a member of the Santa Cruz Mountains Winegrowers Association, where he sources Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes. As of fall 2010, the wines of Domenico have won 300 Medals for wines produced from these various regions!
Prior to opening Domenico Winery, Dominick and Gloria’s passion for the wine business was shared with others on both the East and West Coasts through Bacchus Winemaking Club. This membership club enabled many more people to create their own wines with custom labels. Over 200,000 cases of wine have been created by amateur winemakers on both the East and West Coasts through the years. See the website, http://www.bacchuswinemakingclub.com for more information on making your own wines.
Our recipe for success in the wine business is simple… take the finest grapes of California, add Dominick’s passion, blend with family tradition, and you get wine that exudes complexity, finesse, and agreeability. We invite you to come by the winery to taste for yourself.

Located in an appellation known for world-class wines, this lovely property has been home to our family for over a hundred years. High in the Santa Cruz Mountains above Soquel, the vineyards enjoy sunny days, moderate nights and a long, cool growing season. Hunter Hill wines are clean, fruity and finished. Through each step of the process, from hand pruning the grape clusters through delicate fermentation and graceful aging on American and French Oak, the wines of Hunter Hill are nurtured by an expert craftsman.
Our winemaker, Vann Slatter, follows a simple guiding principle: great wines are easy to make with well-loved, beautiful fruit. It is a philosophy that has brought a sophisticated audience and top-tier acclaim to Hunter Hill. ICC students learn the equivalent of a two-year internship in as little as six months. Often imitated but never duplicated, our Total ImmersionSM teaching method offers intensive instruction and puts you in the kitchen from the very first day. Right from the start, you work with professional equipment, learning and developing essential techniques through cumulative practice. The curriculum is rooted in the fundamentals of French cooking, building blocks from which all Western cuisines can be explored.
The rest of our highly accomplished deans include chefs José Andrés, Cesare Casella, Alain Sailhac, Emily Luchetti, David Kinch, award-winning journalist Alan Richman and master sommeliers Larry Stone and Scott Carney. Under their direction, our highly-trained chef-instructors–expressly trained to help individual students succeed–provide a first-rate education designed for real-world achievement.
Small Class Sizes and Solid Support
With 19 professional kitchens in New York, and 9 in California, ICC’s generous kitchen space means individual workstations for each student. Our low student-to-teacher ratio, a hallmark of ICC, offers support not found at other schools. A substantial library, job and internship placement, and an extensive Chef Demo program—including big names like Dominique Ansel, Seamus Mullen, Francois Payard, John Besh and Massimo Bottura—enhance the educational experience. Nearby housing, student advisors and financial aid specialists help students achieve their dreams, with the school’s 91% graduation rate a testament to our commitment to success.
Career students receive a diploma in three areas: Culinary Arts, Pastry Arts andInternational Bread Baking. In addition to The Italian Culinary Experience andSpanish Studies programs, advanced studies include Intensive Sommelier Training (a remarkable 11 master sommeliers are on staff and the Master Court of Sommeliers test is conducted on-site, with an outstanding pass rate), Culinary Entrepreneurship, Cake Techniques & Design and Advanced Chef Training for professionals. Culinary Arts culminates with real restaurant experience in the award-winning L’Ecole in New York and externships in first-rate restaurants in Northern California.
We also offer an extensive variety of classes for home cooks and professionals looking to brush up on their skills. Classes take place in the same pristine facilities and offer hands-on training by the same chef-instructors who teach our career students.
Beyond the Classroom
The ICC experience reaches far beyond the kitchen; set in the culinary capital of New York City’s Soho and California’s lush Silicon Valley, you’ll have access to some of the very best restaurants, vineyards and chefs in the world. Students of our Spanish program can conclude their training with a week in Spain, while those in the authentic Italian Culinary Experience spend more than three months in Italy through a special ICC arrangement with the Italian government.
Unique Farm-to-Table Opportunity
Those looking to get to the roots of ingredients can enroll in our innovativeProfessional Culinary Arts + Farm-to-Table course. In addition to field trips throughout, New York students conclude with the week-long program created by ICC grad Dan Barber, his staff and Stone Barns Center’s farmers. Professional Culinary Arts Immersion + Farm-to-Table students in California enjoy field trips and a week created by Karen Karp, one of the ambassadors of the “good food” movement, that explores farming, production, distribution, social and environmental sustainability and policy.
If college is in your future, ICC students can transfer as many as 60 credits toward a Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree at The New School, a highly respected NYC university known for its prestigious Parsons School for Design and Mannes College for Music.

McCarthy Family Estate Vineyard has created an exceptional, limited production Cabernet Sauvignon for the sophisticated wine connoisseur. Nestled in foothills above Los Gatos, McCarthy Family Estate Vineyard encompasses six acres of dry farmed, organically grown vineyards, with a desired southwest exposure, on steep naturally draining slope, which continues the historical growing of Cabernet grapes in the Santa Cruz Mountain Appellation, and more specifically the Jesuits growing Cabernet grapes over a 100 years ago on their contiguous parcel.
The first harvest, of primarily three year old vines, was in 2006, which amounted to a very small quantity. 2007 & 2008 harvests have increased exponentially and full production should be reached in 3 to 4 years, 2011 or 2012.

My winemaking passion has been a way-of-life for 40+ years. As Winemaker, I’ve spent the past 35 years focused on producing site driven wines from the Santa Cruz Mountains and on building Thomas Fogarty Winery into a highly respected national brand. I started Martella wines in 1998, with the objective of taking a non-traditional approach to my winemaking. Martella wines are made using natural wine making practices. We purchase fruit in small quantities, of various grape varieties, from several diverse regions. The production on most of these wines are less than 200 cases.

Mount Eden VineyardsMount Eden Vineyards
Mount Eden Vineyards is a small historic wine estate perched at 2000 feet overlooking Silicon Valley, in the Santa Cruz Mountain Appellation, about 50 miles south of San Francisco. Founded in 1945, it is recognized as one of the original “boutique” California winery properties, focusing on small lots of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. Mount Eden’s lineage of estate bottled Chardonnay and Pinot Noir is the longest in California. Planted in austere, infertile Franciscan shale on a cool, exposed mountaintop, these low-yielding estate vineyards have consistently produced world-class wines for over a half-century. In 2007 Mount Eden acquired an additional 55 acres in the Saratoga foothills, which was christened Domaine Eden.
Mount Eden Vineyards also produces non-estate Chardonnays from the central coast, primarily Edna Valley. They have great success making Chardonnay from the Wolff Vineyard and are continually recognized as making outstanding wines from that region.
Since 1981 Jeffrey Patterson has guided the winemaking and grape growing at Mount Eden. His emphasis is on wine growing rather than winemaking; and an obsession with gentleness and naturalness in the handling of the grapes and wines is his ongoing passion.

Muccigrosso VineyardsMuccigrosso Vineyards
Muccigrosso Vineyards is a family-run endeavor committed to producing small quantities of hand made fine wines designed to satisfy everybody. Since the early 80′s when we first planted vines on our Santa Cruz Mountain property, we have studied the winemaking process from vine to glass. Over the years we have learned a great deal about getting results with as little intervention possible. Thanks to a broadening fan base, recent seasonal fortune and a foolhardy sense of adventure, we have become a bonded winery.
Muns VineyardMuns Vineyard
Muns Vineyard brushes the sky on the Loma Prieta ridge top above Monterey Bay at 2600 feet looking out over Santa Cruz and the Monterey Peninsula. This is the highest Pinot Noir vineyard in the Santa Cruz Mountains, a prime growing region for this luscious winegrape. We enjoy the coastal climate of the mountains, with cool fog lapping at our feet in the summer, gentle breezes and sunlight — perfect for growing premium Pinot Noir and Syrah. Moderate days and cool nights, along with diligent personal attention in our 13-acre owner-operated vineyard, produces fruit with rich and complex flavors. We have blended Dijon clones 114, 115, 667 and 777 to provide a fruit-forward, complex and well-balanced Pinot Noir.
We grow 12 acres of Pinot Noir and source most of it to other wineries. You will find Muns Vineyard-designate Pinot Noirs under other wineries’ labels, in the Santa Cruz Mountains and elsewhere. We produce a small amount of Pinot Noir under our own label, as well as our Syrah.
Minimal intervention in the winery allows our unique terroir to shine. Barrel aging in 30% new oak for about 16 months adds soft tannins that accentuate, but not dominate, the beautiful fruit in this special wine. The wine drinks well now and is a delicious complement with food, and will bottle-age for years to come. Enjoy ‘heaven-in-a-bottle’ from our ridge top vineyard above the bay!

Our boutique Santa Cruz Mountains winery is located at the end of Pleasant Valley in Aptos in the Corralitos foothills. In addition to our wonderful extra virgin olive oil, we produce over 1000 cases of wine annually, which include limited releases of our estate wines, as well as additional production of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Syrah Grenache, Sangiovese and Zinfandel from Santa Cruz and Monterey Counties.

We hope you have the opportunity to visit, and join us in savoring a glass of wine. Relax and enjoy the vineyard and valley views while you share a picnic lunch with friends under the Oaks.
Odonata Wines is a small family winery based here on the West side of Santa Cruz. We do our best to focus on local grapes that are organic and grown sustainably. We work closely with the growers to ensure the highest quality wines from the vines to the glass.
The credo I subscribe to is the blending of old world winemaking methods and attitudes with new learning and a continuous search for improvement.
My desire is to create wines that are soft, supple, and with subtle complexity. Inspired from the traditional French style, these wines are designed to be food friendly. They are balanced in fruit, acidity, alcohol, and wood, with flavors and aromas that are cohesive with a lengthy finish.
Odonata wines are made to be accessible now, but will also age beautifully. They will always be hand made in small batches to exemplify the unique qualities of the varietal and vineyard.
Osocalis is a small, artisanal distillery in Soquel, California. The name Osocalis is the original Native American name for Soquel, today part of the greater Santa Cruz area. We use a small (100 gallon) antique alambic Charentais still, imported from Cognac, to produce brandies using grapes and apples from the cooler coastal regions of California. We strive to produce products that have the length, elegance and finesse of Old World brandies, such as Cognac and Calvados, but with the fruit intensity and structure of California wines.
Founded in the early 1990′s, Osocalis represents the second generation of small American distillers to use the combination of Old World techniques with New World fruit. The first generation of artisan distillers in California, including Germain-Robin in Ukiah and RMS in Carneros, clearly demonstrated the intensity and richness that can be achieved from brandies derived from California fruit. California brandy makers have the advantage (and the challenge!) of being able to blend a large number of grape varieties together for a more complex and interesting product, whereas French law strictly limits this practice. At Osocalis, our brandy is based primarily on Colombard and Pinot Noir, though we also distill a wide array of wines such as Marsanne, Riesling, Syrah, Grenache, and Semillon. In fact, it is the art of blending these brandies from a variety of fruit sources which gives California brandies their very special style.
P M StaigerP M Staiger
P M STAIGER was established in 1973 on a ridge above Boulder Creek, in the Santa Cruz Mountains. The site had been an early twentieth century vineyard and winery operated by the Jim Locatelli family, but by the time we purchased the land the vines had long since disappeared and only a few large hoops from the old redwood tanks were all that remained of the cellar.
We replanted the vineyard and built a new house and winery, designed by Robert Walker. The varieties planted – Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc – were determined by the types that had been historically grown successfully with good exposure in the higher elevations of the Santa Cruz Mountains, and, admittedly, our love of the French archetypes of these wines. The Cabernet was planted on a slope that faces almost due south, the Merlot to the west of this where it gets more of the northwest marine influence and so is somewhat cooler, and the Chardonnay on a slope facing southwest. Of equal if not greater importance is the elevation: our vineyards are above one thousand feet which is the boundary between the cold air in the valley and the warmer air in the thermal belts above. Since the vineyards came into full production we have made wine only from our own grapes. Having this one source, which we control down to the smallest detail, has provided an opportunity to perfect wine making to a degree that is rarely possible.
Poetic CellarsPoetic Cellars
Poetic Cellars is located on 36 acres in the beautiful Santa Cruz Mountains overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The temperate climate makes it an ideal location for growing many of the grapes contained in our wines. The cooling ocean air ensures that the grapes have a long growing season and ripen to perfection.
Portola VineyardsPortola VineyardsContact: Len Lehmann
We are a community-supported micro-winery focused on making hand-crafted Pinot Noirs. Since 2005, we have been producing award-winning wines from our estate vineyard in Portola Valley.
We strive to make outstanding vintages that showcase the taste of the mid-Peninsula foothills. We practice organic and ecologically balanced farming techniques that improve rather than degrade the land.
Above all, we seek to create connections — to allow people in our community to know their vintner, to work the vines that produce their wine, and to come together with neighbors in the beauty of the foothills.

Rhys VineyardsRhys Vineyards
At Rhys Vineyards we aspire to make great wines from unique and expressive vineyards. This pursuit has lead us to select five different sites in the Santa Cruz Mountains for growing Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Syrah. Our overriding belief that unique vineyard expression is the key to truly great wine leads us to an approach that includes:
- A relentless, spare-no-expense, focus on producing the best possible fruit in the vineyard
- Carefully selected cool weather sites that offer interesting and expressive soil character
- Natural winemaking with minimal intervention
These core tenets help us produce ageworthy wines that emphasize vineyard expression, balance, fresh fruit, and concentration.
Ridge VineyardsRidge Vineyards
At Ridge we begin with respect for the natural process that transforms fresh grapes into wine, and for the 19th century model of guiding that process with minimal intervention. When you have great vineyards that produce high-quality grapes of distinct, individual character, this approach is not only environmentally and socially responsible, it’s also the best way to consistently make fine wine.

The Roudon-Smith Winery is dedicated to the production of exceptional wines from selected vineyards of the Santa Cruz Mountains and other regions of California. Traditional winemaking methods result in elegant, long-lived wines, which are the perfect complement to any meal. At Roudon-Smith Winery, we specialize in the making of fine wines as well as the enjoyment of taking on new challenges. Every year, we search for the most remarkable fruit available. Then with a minimal intervention approach to winemaking, we aim to preserve this quality as the grapes evolve to wine. Though small, we are growing our production as we find additional exceptional grape sources that we can turn into high quality wines.

Santa Cruz Mountain VineyardSanta Cruz Mountain Vineyard
Santa Cruz Mountain Vineyard has been making European-style, food-friendly, cellar-worthy wines since 1975. We are well-known for making Pinot Noir that can age beautifully for three decades.
Our basic philosophy is that wine should dance with food and make the food/wine experience more than a sum of the ingredients. This means making wines with moderate alcohol and oak so that the true characteristics of the grape varieties are expressed. You won’t find any high-alcohol, jammy, oaky wines here.
In 2008 we launched a second brand, Quinta Cruz, which features only varieties that originated on the Iberian Peninsula but are now grown here in California. These Portuguese and Spanish varieties include Tempranillo, Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Souzao, Graciano, and Tinto Cão.
After more-or-less hiding away in the mountains for 32 years, the winery moved into the city of Santa Cruz in 2008 and opened the first tasting room in our long history. We are located in an area where you can walk to many other tasting rooms nearby and are only a few blocks from the beach and Natural Bridges State Park.
Tasting Room is Open Seven Days a Week for the Summer!

Silvertip VineyardsSilvertip Vineyards
Founded on the principle that great wine can only come from a great source, Silvertip Vineyards was begun with the intent of producing wines that express the uniqueness of the soil and climate of the Santa Cruz Mountains.
In 1967 Gerald Nelson purchased 162 acres of Santa Cruz Mountain land, and soon after planted the land with Christmas trees. For 30 years, the property was known as Nelson’s Christmas Tree Farm and the family grew a variety of Christmas trees, the most prized trees among them were the slow growing Silvertip Firs.
In 1999 the Nelson family decided to exchange Christmas trees for grape vines and 9 acres of Pinot Noir and Syrah were planted. Over the years since establishing the vineyard, the high quality fruit that the estate produces has been sold to numerous wineries in the Santa Cruz Mountains. In 2008 the family decided to venture out on their own and create a brand that could highlight the exceptional character of the fruit produced from the estate.
Silvertip Vineyards began with the intent to produce nothing less than some of the finest Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Syrah that California can produce. With a dedication to the unique terroir of the vineyard, the mission is to create wines that will not only prove worthy of ageing, but will also inspire, delight, and bring joy to the senses.

Windy Oaks Estate Vineyards & WineryWindy Oaks Estate Vineyards & Winery
Since our first vintage in 1999, Windy Oaks driving objective has been to produce world-class Pinot Noir that faithfully represents our unique vineyard terroir, with no compromises. Our winemaking begins in our vineyards, which we farm in a fully sustainable way, using many organic and biodynamic practices.
In the winery, our philosophy is to use a minimal intervention approach to fully preserve the grape quality achieved in our vineyards. Nothing is rushed—every effort is made to let the wine evolve naturally to its best expression. Hence, the winery is all-gravity, wines are aged on their lees in French oak for 17 to 27 months, and all wines are bottled without filtering or fining.
